Killing in the name of

“When morality comes up against profit, it’s seldom profit loses” (Chisholm, 68) and so it seems to be going that way at the moment.

Sadly, but not surprisingly, the decision to scrap FA cup replays was announced yesterday, yet another nail in the coffin for the working class game.

Lower league and non league clubs who could be transformed or simply, just live to fight another day as a result of earnings from a replay but, out of the 729 teams that compete, the final say is from the Premier League which makes up just 3%, pure capitalism!

There is no doubt, despite the PR machine of the PL and FA promising more money for grass roots (how long have they been promising this) it’s really more about the champions league and, cries from the “big 6” managers that their little delicate cherubs are too tired. This seems a tad hypercritical as those are the teams that have agreed to the expansion of the Champions League games. But why? Money of course!

The PL have established partnerships with big brands with the likes of McDonald’s “supporting grass roots” football. The cynic in me would say it’s more about selling Big Macs than the big picture. If you take a look around the country, much of the grass roots game is on its backside. The PL under its current leadership cannot be trusted

The Premier League have been “masters” at pulling the wool over people’s eyes. The game is about the supporters, football is a like a family, it’s about communities blah blah but really it’s about squeezing every last penny out of each family that they’re supposed to really care about. A typical PL adult ticket is around £50. A Family of 4 therefore would cost around £150 per game, not including travel, refreshments and souvenirs! So, let’s cut the crap Premier League, you’re more concerned about profit over people.

It’s up to the fans to take the game back. The Premier League machine is spiralling out of control. Fans of other teams seeing issues only as an Everton or a Nottingham Forest problem are now starting to realise there’s more to it. They could be next.

In going behind the backs of the league and non league, Masters’ greed has only brought more scrutiny under his organisation, pushing them closer to an independent regulator. Quite the opposite of his intention. Little Richard isn’t the big cock(rel) he thought he was, well he kind of is.
